John Holm

Artist Bio/Description: I have explored the mountains, plains, and beaches of the West. I recall the joys of crackling campfires and open spaces. Painters like George Inness and early California Tonalists inspire me. In this tradition, I use a limited palette and less detail to evoke nostalgia, intrigue, or mystery. I paint scenes of dusk and moonlight that invite calm and contemplation. Those times push aside the busyness of the day and impart a sense of peace. I don't aim to paint what I see, but rather what the scene says to me. I have a Fine Arts Degree from the Art Center College of Design and reside in Port Townsend with my wife, Nancy, in a 1890 church.
