Julie Read
Artist Bio & Description:
I became inspired to paint after I encountered a Folk Artist in Vermont in 2010. Soon after I took some painting classes with Port Townsend artist Max Grover, and 4 years later had my first show in his gallery. Now I partner with him and 3 others at Grover Gallery, and operate Howdy Studio with my partner Burl Norville. I teach Acrylic painting for beginners, with a strong leaning towards realism.
My recent paintings are often inspired by photographs I find in family albums or in bins at antique stores. I seek to express my own relationship to America and its history, my own personal family history and the complicated feelings and memories I hold. All of my inspirations are absurd or sarcastic to me, and I enjoy trying to express that type of humor in subtle ways.
Studio Address: 210 Polk Street Unit #3, Port Townsend, WA 98368 (Studio is on the second floor of the Kuhn building).
