April Ottey
Artist Bio & Description: I focus on the intricate details in the natural world, the architecture, texture and shape of the natural artifacts that surround us: in our gardens and on our walks on the beach and in the woods. I hope to help people slow down and look at the world around them with new eyes: to zoom in and see the delicate petals of a blossom, in the geometry of a fallen seed pod or the intricate texture of tree bark.
By casting directly from the intricate pieces found in my garden, on the beach or in the mountains and then incorporating them into my jewelry, I hope that people will find their own connections to experiences or special places.
My jewelry combines the cast botanicals with gemstones, beach stones and recycled gold and silver. The transformation of these details to wearable art challenges and engages me continually.
You can find my jewelry in various galleries around the northwest, as well as on my website. I teach workshops through Northwind Art. A visit to my studio is also a visit to the garden where many of my pieces begin.
