Beyond Direct Positive: Expanding Your Pinsta Practice with Paper Negatives

$200.00

October 5: 11am-4pm

Location: Port Townsend, Washington (location provided after registration)

For many Pinsta photographers, Harman Direct Positive Paper has been the go-to material. Unfortunately, its availability has become increasingly unpredictable, making it difficult to rely on. Rather than waiting for a single product to return to the market, this workshop explores the creative possibilities of photographic negative papers, materials that are widely available, less expensive, and offer far greater artistic flexibility.

Designed for folks with previous Pinsta experience, this hands-on workshop will introduce a variety of black-and-white photographic papers and demonstrate how each responds to light. We'll experience the characteristics of different papers, and learn how to develop them using both traditional black-and-white chemistry and more environmentally friendly developing solutions.

We'll also cover black-and-white reversal processing, transforming paper negatives into unique positive images, and explore contact printing techniques to create finished prints from your negatives.

By the end of the workshop, you'll have the knowledge and confidence to work with readily available materials while expanding the creative possibilities of your Pinsta practice.

Prerequisite: Previous experience using a Pinsta camera is required and may be obtained by enrolling in either of the sessions on October 4th or by arranging a 1/1 prior to October 5. Bring your Pinsta camera or borrow one of ours. All materials provided. The processes covered in this workshop embrace experimentation, so unexpected results are part of the experience and often lead to the most interesting discoveries.

If a session is sold out, email us to join the waitlist: jen@rawartcollective.org
